Stainless Steel 409 consists of 10.5–11.75% chromium, ≤0.08% carbon, and ≤1.0% manganese, with titanium included for stabilization. This ferritic stainless steel boasts a tensile strength of around 380–450 MPa, a yield strength of ≥170 MPa, and an elongation of about 20%, depending on the tempering process. It offers moderate corrosion resistance, especially against exhaust gases and moisture, while maintaining its structural integrity at higher temperatures. With thermal conductivity and oxidation resistance up to 675°C, it’s perfect for high-temperature applications. SS 409 also features better fabrication characteristics compared to other lower alloy stainless steels.
