SS 418 is a martensitic stainless steel, which provides good strength, high hardness, and good wear resistance. It mainly consists of iron, chromium content between 12-14%, and carbon between 0.15-0.25%. This alloy contains small amounts of manganese, silicon, and phosphorus. SS 418 provides excellent corrosion resistance in mildly corrosive environments but not as much resistance as in the case of austenitic grades like SS 304. This grade is utilized in high strength and moderate corrosion resistance applications like automotive, valve components, and machine parts. Mechanical properties: tensile strength 650 MPa hardness up to 45 HRC.
